Don’t let your anxiety define you

Copy of Invisible Illness (6)When you suffer from anxiety, it is very hard to avoid letting it define you.  This is especially true when you’re having a hard day.

There is more to you

The truth is you are so much more than your anxiety disorder.  You are a human being with so many valuable qualities that you probably choose to ignore.

Perhaps you are kind, intelligent, funny, loyal, compassionate or creative.  Whatever you may be, you are not your anxiety.

Everyone has their issues

Everyone has issues they have to deal with, whether it is a bad back, digestive problems or whatever.  Your issue happens to be anxiety and that is ok.

As with any issue, your anxiety affects how you are feeling and has an impact on your day to day behaviour but it is not all there is to you.

Never let anxiety become an excuse

Yes you have an illness and you need support, but don’t expect others to pity you.  You have an anxiety disorder but you are still capable of so much.

If you succumb to the idea that you are a victim and there is nothing you can do then you will just make yourself feel worse.

While your life may be limited by anxiety, you can still channel your energy in positive ways such as with art, writing or cooking.

Carry on regardless

Be determined.  Don’t let anxiety beat you.  No matter how many times you get knocked down, get up and try again.  You never know – today might be the day when you make a breakthrough.

Even when it feels as if your anxiety is here to stay, remember that there are people out there who have got better so it is possible.

You are not alone

Whatever anxiety disorder you have, it doesn’t make you any less of a person than anyone else.  Don’t let anxiety define you.  Challenge yourself to keep riding those waves and become the best version of you that you can be.

  1. Good messages here! I always feel the most important thing to remember is that we are more than the textbook symptoms that make our lives challenging. Those symptoms can be powerful and make it hard to see, but they don’t erase all the positive qualities, such as the resilience we have to keep going.
